Started in 2014 Heroes for Hospice is a Kansas City based non-profit giving back to hospice care in the form of two family friendly events, our annual 5K run/walk and reverse raffle. We look forward to you and your family joining us supporting this great cause! Both events benefit Kansas City Hospice and Midland Care Hospice of Topeka & Lawrence. We all have been touched by someone in our lives who has been through hospice care. Kansas City Hospice and Midland Care provide the most outstanding care during our families hardest times and we could not think of two better organizations to be our charitable partners for our events.
Our Mission:
To bring attention and awareness to the service that hospice and palliative care provides to the greater Kansas City and Topeka communities through community events that help raise funds to help cover the cost of care for those who cannot afford it on their own.
Why Hospice?
In August of 2011 Jeff lost his father, Ward Whelan, to an eight year battle with cancer. In July 2013 Karli Ritter lost her grandfather, Ken Chandler, to a three year battle with cancer.
Looking to give back to the community both decided on starting a 5K run/walk to benefit the Kansas City and Topeka hospice charities. Both the Whelan and Ritter family’s had their loved ones go through hospice care and realized that these amazing organizations do not get the recognition they deserve. Providing the most beloved care, while giving peace of mind to grieving families is a much needed service.
We are excited to have the KC metro and Topeka communities involved and look forward to a great race!
